Exploring MOUA

Once below the surface, visitors will find an incredible array of sculptures depicting various themes relating to reef health and conservation. One such sculpture is “Ocean Siren” – a stunning piece modelled on a local child that changes colour depending on the temperature of the sea. It is visible from The Strand without getting your feet wet – making it perfect for kids to learn more about climate change in an exciting way!
Other sculptures at MOUA include “The Earth Mother” which is made up of 500 individual limestone blocks crafted together to form an iconic representation of a pregnant woman; and “The Coral Greenhouse” which provides secure refuge for small fish species. In addition to these installations, visitors will also find various interactive elements within MOUA such as educational signage describing the history and significance of each piece as well as opportunities to take part in research projects within the gallery.
Moua has been designed with sustainability in mind; materials used are all locally sourced recycled concrete that is built using sustainable processes with renewable energy sources. Furthermore, local marine species have been encouraged to colonise the artificial structures allowing them to create safe havens for marine life away from overfishing impacts on nearby coral reefs.
